AS3 :: RegExp Multiline support

Well,

My mouth gets going on flexcoders. I asked the question if sometime in the future we regexp freaks could have multiline support with comments. Well, there is about 15 threads on the question but, my question never got answered from Adobe. I guess that is a no.

So I will take my rant to my home, here.

I am an artist; 3d modeler, electric/acoustic guitar for 15 years, techno head(drum machines, sequencers, groove boxes, midi, computers, keyboard), technical drafts man(ink+mylar drafts), autocad, hand drawing, singing. What does this have to do with RegExp ?

Regular expressions are a technical form of art for me. I see patterns in everyday life. Yeah, I stopped looking a license plates for symbolic clues for alien communication years ago :) . The point is, being able to free flow regexp would enable me to express my expressions 100 times over(no pun intended). So, Adobe, there are many forms of art and I guess what I am trying to say is there might be a higher reason I ask for this addition in the future.

Maybe if Jeffrey Friedl read this post he would know what I am talking about.

Consider the following;

Well, you know I was going to do an example here but why. Anybody that knows what I am talking about knows what I am talking about.

I know it’s possible becasue they have done it with XML now.

Anyway, I’m done now, it’s dead and I wave the white flag!

Thanks to Darron Schall for giving me advice, it’s well appriciated.

For now, I am doing the += routine with double backslashes! This is like the In Living Color intros where they throw paint all over the walls. It gets the job done but it’s not what I’m looking for.

BTW I use regexp literals for short things. Good regexpers know you can do some great things with long expressions though.

Peace, Mike
